Your Calm Wear is engineered to survive 100+ machine washes at 30°C — but only if the wash is done right. The absorbent core and the waterproof barrier layer are technical fabrics, and two common laundry habits will quietly destroy them. Here's everything, in two lists.
Do
- Rinse after wear (optional but ideal): a quick cold rinse under the tap before it goes in the laundry basket keeps everything fresher until wash day.
- Machine wash at 30°C with your normal laundry — no separate load needed. A gentle cycle extends life further.
- Use regular detergent, the normal amount. Liquid or powder both fine.
- Hang dry overnight. Over a rail or on the line — out of direct harsh sun if possible. Hung after the evening wash, it's ready by morning.
- Run a 3–5 pair rotation: one on, one in the wash, one dry and waiting. This is why the 3-pack is the practical minimum — a single pair can't rotate.
Don't
- No fabric softener — ever. Softener coats the absorbent fibres in a waxy film. Each wash with softener makes the core absorb less, until it stops working. This is the #1 killer.
- No tumble dryer. High heat degrades the waterproof barrier layer. Once that layer fails, the garment leaks through — permanently.
- No bleach, no vinegar soaks, no boiling. Same reason: harsh chemicals and heat attack the technical layers.
- No ironing the gusset or core area.
- Don't leave it wet in the basket for days. Rinse or wash within a day or two of wear.
Odour
The bamboo fabric does the odour work during wear. If a pair ever smells musty after washing, it was likely dried too slowly — wash again at 30°C and dry it in moving air. Never "fix" smell with softener or bleach; see above.
When to retire a pair
After heavy rotation you'll eventually notice the core absorbing slower or dampness reaching the outside. That's the end of its working life — with correct care, that point is 100+ washes away. Cut off the waistband for the rag drawer and recycle what your municipality accepts.
